Defence Minister Jaromír Zůna met with his Moldovan counterpart Minister Anatolie Nosatîi. They primarily discussed future options for pursuing joint efforts in military training and education. The meeting was a follow-up on Minister Zůna’s visit to Chişinău in May during which both representatives confirmed their interest in strengthening defence cooperation between the Czech Republic and Moldova.
The Ministers evaluated the existing common efforts and discussed possibilities for their progress, with specific focus on projects on military training and education, professional training, sharing expertise and future cooperation in military research. They also entertained options regarding the future course of defence cooperation of the two countries with the aim to support building defence capabilities of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Moldova.
Outside its NATO and EU partners, Moldova is an important partner for the Czech Republic in defence cooperation. In the last years, the focus of this joint endeavour has been on strengthening capabilities of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Moldova and developing practical military cooperation. Moldovan service members have received training provided by the British Military Advisory Training Team Czech Republic (BMATT CZ), particularly in the form of deployed teams in Moldovan territory, but also by attending courses in Vyškov. In addition to bilateral cooperation, the Czech Republic provides assistance on developing Moldovan defence capacity by using NATO (Defence Capacity Building) and EU instruments, for example the European Peace Facility designed to enhance the EU’s ability to prevent conflicts, build and preserve peace and contribute to international security and stability.
The Ministers concurred on the importance of ongoing dialogue and confirmed their commitment to advancing practical cooperation between the two Ministries.
The delegation’s programme also included visits to selected Czech defence industries, which furnished opportunities for the Moldovan party to expand familiarity with the portfolio of the Czech defence sector and discuss options of future cooperation.
