The final phase of the ‘Touches of Statehood’ exhibition was completed on October 5th by the attendance of President of the Czech Republic Milos Zeman who officiated the opening at Prague Castle Riding School.
The exhibition commemorating the 100th anniversary of the foundation of Czechoslovakia on 28th October 1918 ranks among one of the country’s major events and celebrates both the birth of independent Czechoslovakia and the joint peaceful and ongoing coexistence of Czechs and Slovaks since the foundation of the sovereign Czech and Slovak Republics in 1993.
This year, the exhibition is showing hundreds of unique objects and documents highlighting the lives and deeds of past presidents of Czechoslovakia and later of the Czech Republic, and takes the visitor back to other exceptional periods of Czech modern history.
Following a press conference, President Milos Zeman presented a historical photo to Colonel Ales Knizek, Director of the Military History Institute, depicting a meeting between President Zeman's grandfather and the first Czechoslovak President, Tomas Garrigue Masaryk.
This retrospective event is opened to the public from May - October 2018. It was organised by the Military History Institute (Prague) in cooperation with Prague Castle Administration, the Office of the President, Czech Parliament Archives, the Military Central Archives, and the National and Postal Museums.
