Czech Republic to downsize the deployment in Mali; EUTM and MINUSMA continue

One of the three operations with the participation of Czech service personnel in Mali will be discontinued. Top officials of European countries decided to phase the operation out and withdraw the forces forming Task Force Takuba as part of Operation Barkhane led by France. The drawdown in Mali does not apply to the European Union Training Mission and the United Nations’ MINUSMA, where the Czech engagement continues.

The Government endorsed ammunition donation for Ukraine

On Wednesday January 26, 2022, the Government of the Czech Republic endorsed the proposal by the Defence Minister Jana Černochová to grant an exception from the condition of the status of permanent excessiveness of military materiel and realise its free transfer to Ukraine, specifically concerning calibre 152 mm artillery ammunition.

Minister of Defence Jana Černochová presented her priorities at today’s press conference. Her Decalogue for Defence includes both the commitment to spend two percent of GDP on defence by 2025 and the establishment of a dedicated investment fund to concentrate funding for strategic modernisation projects. The Minister also wants to streamline the acquisition process, modernise the Armed Forces and recruit more personnel.
