Czech Defence Minister Vlasta Parkanova together with Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg visited Afghanistan in mid April 2007.
In the course of their visit they opened the Embassy of the Czech Republic to Afghanistan in Kabul. The Embassy is led by chargé d'affaires Filip Velach until an Ambassador is appointed. Former Czechoslovakia closed its embassy in Kabul in 1992.
The Czech delegation to Afghanistan was received by Afghan President Hamid Karzai who highlighted Czech support for his country. The talks included also business opportunities.
Minister of Defence Vlasta Parkanova visited personnel of the Czech Field Hospital serving in Kabul, met with soldiers and handed over presents to local children.
